Thanks for the Thanks! (2021 Edition)

A good "thank you" goes a long way.

Having recently wrapped up our 2021 cycle of JCF Scholarship Awards, the Jewish Community Foundation, Inc. has happily received wonderful thank you notes from many of our 24 awardees.

By sharing some of these notes, we hope to convey why financial awards to assist with higher education costs are so vital for our community's budding leaders. (Awardees' quotes are anonymized and lightly edited in spots.)

We hope you enjoy these notes as much as we have!

1.

"Thank you so much for awarding me with the scholarship! I am so grateful for your generosity and support. This year has been so exciting, while difficult, as co-president of (a Jewish community organization at my college), and I have really enjoyed working with my board and rabbi to make sure that our community has been able to stay connected during this time. This past week I also got the exciting news that I will be serving as co-president this upcoming year again, and I look forward to rebuilding and growing our in-person community, and to a seamless transition where we can support our current members and also create a welcoming and inclusive environment for first-years and the half of the student body that has not yet experienced a normal year on campus."

2.

"I am writing to express my gratitude for your generous scholarship assistance. I was so thankful to learn of my selection for this program, and I am deeply appreciative of your support.

"I am presently pursuing joint degrees in Social Work and Law and your financial contribution has a direct impact on my ability to obtain my education. Your generosity has inspired me to help others and give back to the community. I hope that one day I will be able to help other students achieve their goals just as you have helped me."

3.

"I was so honored and appreciative to learn that I was the recipient of (a JCF scholarship award). It was particularly meaningful because it reflected my personal passion for giving back and being a part of the Jewish community. Growing up in South Jersey it could be easy to take our vibrant, engaged Jewish community for granted. But it’s the ongoing involvement of my generation that will hopefully keep it vibrant for years to come. I’m planning to bring my passion as a freshman at Tulane University this fall. A big part of what attracted me to Tulane was its large Jewish population and focus on community giving. While my volunteering has certainly been its own reward, being recognized in this way has been a highlight of my high school career.

"I want to thank you again for your generous support of my higher education and I hope to reap dividends for the investment you are making in me."

4.

"Thank you so much for all of your kindness I truly appreciate it. These scholarships allow me to continue thriving in college and be involved. I am on the girls golf team, dance company, on the board of the student run dance company, dance team, and do research under a professor. Without your generosity I would not be able to do all these things and be on the deans lists for my grades."

5.

"Thank you so very much for the (JCF Scholarship Award)...

"This award will be used to purchase a... laptop computer, which I will take with me to the University of Chicago in the fall. While an undergraduate at UChicago, I plan to study linguistics/archaeology/anthropology, with a specific interest in ancient languages. Having reliable and up to date technology will help enormously as I complete my work. I am grateful to have had the support of the Jewish Community Foundation as we patch together a plan to pay for the numerous expenses of college."

6.

"I would like to thank you very much for choosing me as the winner of (a JCF Scholarship Award). I will be attending the University of Wisconsin in the fall and dream of becoming a doctor, and this generous scholarship is an incredible opportunity that will allow me to make these dreams become my reality.

"After everything that has occurred in Israel (recently), I am reminded of the importance of keeping Judaism alive and supporting other Jewish people in the process; therefore I would love to be of assistance in any future service projects you may have.

"Once again, I cannot thank you enough for this award and I am incredibly grateful to the committee."

7.

"I am writing to thank you for choosing me to receive your generous scholarship. I am

humbled to be chosen as the recipient from an organization that means so much to me and my family. College is very expensive and every bit helps.

"Next year I will be attending the University of Virginia to study computer science, and I

will continue to work diligently in school and make the most out of your investment in me.

"In the future, I am more than happy to help out with any service projects. Please do not

hesitate to reach out. Thank you again and have a wonderful and safe summer."

8.

"I am absolutely honored to be receiving this (JCF Scholarship) award. Being a member of and working to strengthen my Jewish community are so important to me and I am grateful to be able to continue this work in honor of (the award donor). This scholarship will help pay for my education at Rutgers University where I plan to be involved in Hillel as well as many other extracurriculars. Thank you again, immensely, for your generous donation and for making this award possible."

9.

"To the donors of the (JCF Scholarship Award), I would like to personally thank you for your generous donation to this award through the Jewish Community Foundation. It has been my dream to spend a year in Israel since I started high school and with your help, that dream is now a reality. I am honored to receive this prestigious award. This next year will be an incredible learning experience for me, both in and out of the classroom. Thank you for your support."

Mazel tov to all of our awardees, and we wish them nothing but the best in their future endeavors!
