JCF provides $38,000 in scholarship awards

JCF Scholarship Awards provided by the Jewish Community Foundation, Inc. exist to defray the cost of post-high school education and impactful travel experiences. Offered annually, the JCF proudly supports some of the best and brightest scholars in our Southern New Jersey community.

This year, 20 individuals collectively received $38,000 in financial awards from the JCF to support their education and development while reducing the cost burden to do so. A committee of volunteer community members, chaired by Carol Roth, review all applications received and determine who best meet the requirements of each award.

The JCF congratulates the following awardees (in alphabetical order by last name): Ella Alfassy, Joshua Bagelle, Charlotte Berman, Kye Binik, Macy Desmond, Natalie Desmond, Yisrael Epstein, Maya Ezran, Hannah Fritzsche, Max Hann, Morgan Hann, Rachel Hornstein, Noah Kaplan, Lisa Kessler, Ross Koenig, Asher Kreisman, Amanda Lane, Sophie Neuwirth, Gabriel Sokolic, and Abraham (A.J.) Spector.

The majority of the award dollars are made possible thanks to a dozen endowment funds that the JCF administers and that spinoff annual payouts. These 12 funds were created by generous donors to perpetuate annual awards:

  • Benjamin Asbell Youth Upsilon Lambda Phi Fraternity Award (Nomination)

  • Patrice Faye Cohen Memorial Scholarship Award

  • Jaclyn Ehrlich Travel Experience Award

  • Furer-Barag-Wolf Post 126 Jewish War Veterans Scholarship Fund

  • Valerie Gladfelter Scholarship Award

  • Leonard Jay Hirschfeld Memorial Endowment Fund

  • Colonel David Marcus Memorial Scholarship Award (new for 2024)

  • Robert L. Schattner Scholarship Fund

  • Seymour Siegel Youth Achievement Award

  • Mildred Soefer Scholarship Fund Award

  • Student Opportunity Scholarship Award - (In Memory of Arthur & Eleanor Klein and David Rivkin)

  • Freda & Sam Yacker Israel Experience Award

Awardees will be honored for their achievements at the JCF’s Scholarship Awards Reception, which is an annual highlight for the agency, offering a chance for awardees and their families to meet with award donors, JCF Board members, and staff.

The next cycle of JCF Scholarship Awards will be launched in December of this year and the deadline to apply will be in March of 2025. For questions about the awards, please contact us at infojcf@jfedsnj.org.
