PALS: Peers Using AAC for Language and Socialization
Mission Statement
The vision of PALS is to develop a summer program for non-verbal/ augmentative communication users in a structured environment. The goal of this program would be to facilitate and foster socialization opportunities.
Program Description
The focus of the PALS program is language based with hands on activities to encourage a natural learning environment. Each participant will have their own one-to-one assistant to provide supports and optimize participation. The activities planned range from arts and crafts, drama, swimming, cooking, exercise based activities, etc.
This is a program created to support students with complex communication needs and expanding their opportunities for using AAC (augmentative and alternative communication) for language and socialization.
The program is designed to meet the needs of teens and young adults between the ages of 17-30 in Southern New Jersey.
